For the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET), make it a baker’s dozen of short lines. The union recently won a representation election at the Chicago, Fort Wayne & Eastern Railroad (CF&E) — the 13th short line BLET has organized since 2002. The National Mediation Board certified election results Sept. 28.

The union also scored its second organizing victory this year. In January, BLET won a representation election at the New Orleans & Gulf Coast Railway Co. Inc.

A RailAmerica Inc. subsidiary, the 276-mile CF&E operates between Crestline, Ohio, and Tolleston, Ind. The short line primarily moves agricultural products, chemicals, metals, paper and minerals.
