The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) division of the Teamsters Rail Conference recently won a representation election at the Panhandle Northern Railroad (PNR). Thirteen of 14 eligible PNR workers voted to join the union, which now represents 14 short lines.

The BLET and fellow Teamsters conference member the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED) plan to work together to organize a number of short lines this year.

“Our goal is aggressive organizing on short line railroads — this is a good start to the year,” said BLET Organizing Director Tommy Miller in a prepared statement.

An OmniTRAX Inc. subsidiary, PNR operates a 31-mile former Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway line between Panhandle and Borger, Texas.
