The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) has asked President Donald Trump to intervene in a dispute between the union and Texas Mexican Railway (Tex Mex) and its parent, Kansas City Southern Railway (KSCR).On July 9, Tex Mex replaced U.S. crew members with Mexican train crews between Laredo Yard in Laredo, Texas, and the International Bridge located about 10 miles away.In a letter to Trump, BLET National President Dennis outlined the ways in which union officials believe Kansas City Southern Railway (KCSR) and its Tex Mex subsidiary are "ignoring or violating federal law" and rail-safety regulations, BLET officials said in a press release.Last week, the union threatened to strike over the dispute. But on July 6, U.S. District Court Judge Diana Saldana granted a preliminary injunction to block the strike, which was slated to begin July 9. The injunction was requested by KCSR and Tex Mex.A copy of the letter can be read here.
