BNSF, CP announce labor agreements

BNSF Railway Co. and the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers have reached an agreement calling for the union’s members to receive an additional four paid days off to use as sick days and gain the ability to convert up to three personal leave days to sick days each year.

The announcement is part of ongoing discussions about modernizing the work environment, BNSF officials said in a press release. Seven of the 12 unions that represent BNSF workers are now covered by paid sick leave agreements, they added.

Meanwhile, Canadian Pacific announced it’s reached a tentative collective agreement with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference Maintenance of Way Employees Division covering 2,600 engineering services employees in Canada.

Details of the tentative agreement will not be released publicly until the agreement has been ratified, CP officials said in a press release. CP has negotiated agreements with multiple unions representing craft employees in recent months, resulting in the ratification of 16 agreements in 2023 in Canada and the United States.
