BNSF creates council to address transportation supervisors' concerns

BNSF Railway Co. recently formed a council to help resolve transportation supervisors’ work/life issues. The Transportation First-Line Supervisors (FLS) council comprises 13 supervisors who serve as liaisons between management and their peers, and try to identify and address concerns.

Modeled after mechanical and engineering FLS councils, the transportation council conducted its first meeting last month in Fort Worth, Texas. Council members will meet quarterly and hold conference calls monthly to evaluate progress and address new issues.

“We hope to better understand the challenges and opportunities that our supervisors face and give them an opportunity to provide us feedback and suggestions for improvement,” said Mark Schulze, BNSF vice president of safety, training and operations support, in a prepared statement.

BNSF plans to form a telecommunications FLS council later this year.
