Brotherhood of Railway Carmen lodge boots up retirement benefit calculator

Transportation-Communications International Union's Brotherhood of Railway Carmen Division (BRC) Lodge 6760 recently introduced "Railroad Retirement Annuity Estimator 2004," a computer program designed to estimate union members' and spouses' monthly retirement payments.

The program calculates Tier I and Tier II benefits, and applicable Tier I and Tier II age reductions for employees retiring with less than 30 years of service, and provides information on unemployment and sickness benefits for base and benefit years.

The Fort Wayne, Ind.-based lodge — which derived calculations from Railroad Retirement Board's annuity formulas — plans to distribute the annuity estimator to BRC members via email and the lodge's Web site.

The lodge represents Norfolk Southern Railway carmen working in 13 Midwestern cities.
