CN, Unifor reach tentative labor pact; TCU, BRC ratify agreements

CN announced yesterday that a tentative four-year collective agreement has been reached with Unifor. No details of the tentative agreement will be released publicly until the agreement is ratified, CN officials said in a press release.
The current collective agreement with Unifor expires on Dec. 31, CN officials said in a press release. The union represents 3,300 CN employees in Canada who work in mechanical, clerical and intermodal functions.
Meanwhile, the National Carriers Conference Committee (NCCC) announced the ratification of five-year national collective bargaining agreements with the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) and the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen (BRC).
The ratified agreements with TCU and BRC follow a pattern established by earlier local agreements between several rail carriers and unions, NCCC officials said in a press release. Benefits for covered employees includes wage increases of 18.8% over five years, enhanced health-care and welfare benefits with no increase to employee contribution rates, and more paid vacation time earlier in employees’ careers.
