On Friday, CN announced it reached a tentative agreement with the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 2004 covering about 2,800 maintenance-of-way employees in Canada. The current agreement with the workers is scheduled to expire on Dec. 31.

Details of the agreement are being withheld pending ratification by USW members, who inspect, maintain and repair track, bridges and structures. The ratification process is expected to take about 60 days, CN officials said in a prepared statement.

The agreement settles issues of “mutual interest” before the current contract expires, said Keith Creel, CN’s executive vice president and chief operating officer.
