Canadian Pacific and the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) reached a new tentative agreement Saturday, averting a strike the union had planned to launch at 12:01 a.m. Feb. 8 if the parties failed to negotiate a new contract.

CAW Local 101, which represents 2,100 CP shopcraft/mechanical services workers, will present the agreement to members and conduct a ratification vote. Ratification results will be released within the next three weeks, CAW officials said in a prepared statement.

Agreement details will be released upon ratification, according to the railroad and union. The pact is unanimously endorsed by the CAW-CP master bargaining committee.

Late last month, the CAW reached a tentative agreement with CN, averting a strike set for Jan. 25.
