CPR, electrical workers' union agree on five-year contract

Canadian Pacific Railway recently reached a tentative five-year agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), which represents about 450 signal maintainers.

Expiring Dec. 31, 2009, the contract would increase wages, and improve benefits and work rules. The agreement is subject to a ratification vote; IBEW expects to announce voting results in September.

“With this settlement, CPR has successfully negotiated collective agreements with all of its unionized employees in Canada,” said CPR President and Chief Executive Officer Rob Ritchie in a prepared statement.
