On Dec. 9, Canadian Pacific Railway Chief Executive Officer Rob Ritchie announced the start of a $6.5 million private fund-raising campaign to create a transportation and logistics program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and University of Calgary during a speech in Calgary, Alberta.
The program would complement an existing applied degree course at Mount Royal College and create a “campus Calgary” approach to teaching transportation and logistics.
“Canada is not producing enough graduates with the skills needed to become leaders in transportation and logistics,” Richie said, according to a press release. “We need to raise awareness of the opportunities in this field [and] make sure there are enough positions at post-secondary institutions for young people to learn the skills.”
