Rail News: Labor
A majority of Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) members recently ratified three four-year agreements with Canadian National Railway Co.
Retroactive to Jan. 1, the contracts cover more than 4,000 of the railroad’s Canadian employees, including shopcraft and clerical/intermodal workers, and owner/operators at a trucking subsidiary that supports CN’s intermodal group.
Shopcraft and clerical/intermodal employees will receive annual wage increases of 3 percent during the pacts’ first three years and 4 percent in the final year. The contracts also call for a post-retirement health care plan, individual employment guarantees for shopcraft employees and a mileage rate increase for owner/operators.
