Rail News: Labor
The Chicago Southshore & South Bend Railroad recently reached an agreement with the United Transportation Union covering conductors, engineers and brakemen.
Ratified by a 10-to-1 to margin, the contract calls for wage increases during the next six years, an immediate signing bonus, a 401(k) plan, and health and welfare benefit improvements. The parties also agreed that crew consist modifications will not result in furloughs or a productivity drop.
Owned and operated by Anacostia & Pacific Co. Inc., the 129-mile Chicago SouthShore & South Bend Railroad provides freight- and passenger-rail services (with passenger operations managed by Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District). The short line serves steel shippers, utilities and the Illinois International Port in Chicago.
