United Transportation Union-represented train and engine, mechanical and maintenance-of-way employees at the Columbia & Cowlitz Railway recently ratified their first agreement since joining the union in October 2011.

Owned by Patriot Rail Corp., the 37-mile Columbia & Cowlitz operates in southwest Washington and interchanges with BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad through the Longview Switching Co. (which is jointly owned by BNSF and UP) in Longview, Wash. Patriot Rail acquired the railroad and five other short lines from Weyerhaeuser Co. in January 2011.
