On Friday, Canadian National Railway Co. announced the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) signed a tentative agreement to extend a four-year contract to five years.

Expiring Dec. 31, 2008, the contract would cover 644 CN workers who maintain and repair signals and communications system in Canada. Contract details weren’t disclosed pending ratification.

Last week, the IBEW also reached a tentative five-year agreement (expiring Dec. 31, 2009) with Canadian Pacific Railway covering 450 signal maintainers. The union expects to announce ratification vote results in September.
