IBEW sends CN 72-hour strike notice

CN confirmed that on Wednesday it received a 72-hour strike notice from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), which represents 750 CN employees.

The notice states that the union intends to strike at 11 a.m. EDT tomorrow.

"CN has negotiated with the union in good faith and will continue to do so," CN officials said in a press release. "The company has also offered to resolve the remaining differences, which are predominantly on wages and benefits, through binding arbitration."

CN officials are optimistic that a resolution will be reached without a strike. But should one occur, the Class I is ready with a contingency plan that would ensure safe rail operations will continue as long as required, they said.
