Rail News: Labor
Last week, Kansas City Southern launched two initiatives designed to improve employees' health and welfare.
The railroad formed a return-to-work committee charged with addressing employee absenteeism and associated costs. Comprising senior managers from the transportation, engineering, mechanical, human resources and claims departments, the committee plans to help employees who are on injury or illness leave return to work.
KCS also rolled out a "Doc on Call" program, which is designed to provide field managers direct contact to an on-call physician to ensure injured or ill employees obtain immediate medical care. The physician can help a supervisor make medical decisions when an employee is transported to a medical facility, manage medical cases and inform a medical facility of the railroad's required administrative processes, according to a prepared statement.
