Rail News: Labor
Last week, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) members rejected a plan to create larger local divisions within the union, which is part of the Teamsters Rail Conference.
Last month, the union sent members ballots seeking votes on whether the BLET should keep divisions at their current size or merge units with other divisions if active membership falls below 25. Currently, the union has 94 divisions with less than 25 members.
“All active members of our organization were given the opportunity to vote on this provision, and the majority voted no,” said BLET National President Don Hahs in a prepared statement.
