Earlier this week, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) reached a three-year agreement with the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), which represents more than 2,300 bus and rail maintenance employees.

The agreement includes a “very modest increase in compensation and adjustments to the health and welfare program for union workers,” said LACMTA General Manager of Employee and Labor Relations Richard Hunt in a prepared statement.

LACMTA and ATU officials reached a tentative agreement on Tuesday, and ATU members ratified it on Wednesday. The contract now will be considered by LACMTA’s board at its Sept. 27 meeting.

Meanwhile, the LACMTA Metro Silver Line will begin running expanded late-night bus service starting tonight as part of an addition to extended late-night rail service, which began three weeks ago.

Ridership from midnight to the close of service has increased 50 percent since LACMTA began operating late-night weekend service on its rail lines and the Metro Orange Line, which prompted agency officials to add the Silver Line, which connects downtown Los Angeles to the San Gabriel Valley and South Bay. The new Silver Line service will offer transit riders a new option to connect to the rest of the Metro system, LACMTA officials said.
