New Orleans & Gulf Coast Railway T&E workers to join BLET

Thirteen of 14 eligible train and engine-service workers at New Orleans & Gulf Coast Railway Co. Inc. (NOGC) recently voted in favor of representation by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen division of the Teamsters Rail Conference, according to election results certified by the National Mediation Board. The workers previously were not represented.

Owned by Rio Grande Pacific Corp., the 32-mile NOGC serves more than 20 switching and industrial customers near New Orleans, and interchanges with Union Pacific Railroad in Westwego, La. Rio Grande also owns the 250-mile Nebraska Central Railroad Co., 210-mile Idaho Northern & Pacific Railroad Co., and 100-mile Wichita, Tillman & Jackson Railway Inc.
