Obama establishes Presidential Emergency Board to end one-day SEPTA strike

On Saturday, President Barack Obama issued an executive order to establish a Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) to investigate contract disputes between the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and more than 400 workers represented by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 744.

The move ended a one-day strike set that began Saturday and shut down SEPTA's commuter-rail system. The PEB was established at the request of Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett.

Under terms of the executive order, all pre-strike conditions have been restored and may not be changed for 120 days, unless the parties settle the dispute.
