Pittsburgh port authority approves agreement with police union

The Port Authority of Alleghany County’s board recently approved a new labor agreement with the Port Authority Transit Police Association.

Retroactive to Aug. 1, 2009, and running through July 31, 2013, the pact applies to more than 30 employees who work for the authority’s police department, port authority officials said in a prepared statement.

Wages will be frozen under the first two years of the agreement, with the possibility for increases in the agreement’s last two years, they said.

“Recognizing the current financial condition of the authority, this is certainly an austerity contract,” said Port Authority Chairman Jack Brooks.
