More than 80 Portland & Western Railroad Inc. (P&W) workers recently ratified a new five-year agreement with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET).

The pact includes general wage increases of 12.5 percent over the life of the contract, increased vacation time, extra pay for rules and recertification classes, and profit sharing.

The agreement also supports the BLET’s cooperative training program under which the short line will use workers selected by the union to develop and administer training programs for new employees and student engineers.

Owned and operated by Genesee & Wyoming Inc., the 444-mile P&W annually moves more than 60,000 carloads.
