SEPTA, TWU to launch apprenticeship program
advertisement
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 234 recently announced a new joint apprenticeship program.
The agency and union plan to provide workers the skills and proficiencies necessary to maintain current work productivity standards, since new technologies and processes have made skilled laborers’ responsibilities more complex, the partners said. They also plan to provide the necessary resources to meet future manpower demand as workers retire.
The program was designed and developed by the Joint Apprenticeship Council, which includes two representatives from both SEPTA and TWU, in accordance with the apprenticeship registration guidelines recommended by state and federal apprenticeship licensing agencies. The first training courses are scheduled to begin later this year.
