Yesterday, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) outlined its service plan in the event the Transport Workers Union Local 243 launches a strike this weekend.

SEPTA currently is negotiating with the union, which has threatened to strike if a contract isn’t settled by midnight today. The strike would shut down most public transit service in the city of Philadelphia, including the Market-Frankford subway, Broad Street Line/Ridge spur and several subway surface routes.

The authority still would operate regional rail service; trolley, bus and Norristown High Speed service in the Suburban Transit Division Victory District; and regular schedules from 30th Street Station to selected University City destinations.

Local 234 represents more than 4,600 operators and mechanics in SEPTA’s City Transit Division.
