Signalman union members ratify Metra agreement

The Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen Local 183 (BRS) this week ratified a seven-year labor agreement with Metra.

The agreement between BRS and the Chicago commuter railroad contains a lump sum signing bonus of $3,400, BRS officials said in a press release.

It also includes compounded annual wage increases totaling 15.39% over the term of the contract including back pay, no increase in monthly health-care cost sharing, hourly increases to supplemental retirement accounts and no rule changes other than improvements to the bereavement rule.

“The pandemic and associated issues made this round of bargaining particularly difficult. Despite the tough negotiations, our bargaining committee fought hard and in the end, the hard working members of Local 183 made their voices heard and ratified the agreement,” said BRS General Chairman Kevin Lavin.
