On Friday, CN announced that members of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) ratified a new three-year agreement covering about 1,800 locomotive engineers in Canada.

Retroactive to Jan. 1, 2012, the contract provides wage increases along with standard benefit improvements, CN officials said in a prepared statement.

“The success of the parties in this round of bargaining bodes well for the future of our relationship and ability to address issues of mutual interest in a constructive way that benefits CN's customers and all of its other stakeholders,” said Keith Creel, executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Meanwhile, the National Mediation Board on Friday announced that the Great Western Railway of Colorado L.L.C. (GWR) and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen reached a tentative agreement covering locomotive engineers and conductors. Owned by OmniTRAX Inc., GWR operates 80 miles of track in northern Colorado.

In addition, the United Transportation Union (UTU) announced that UTU-represented engineers and conductors employed by the Apache Railroad ratified a new three-year agreement. The contract includes wage increases, certification pay, disability and life insurance improvements, and other benefits. The Apache Railroad operates 38 miles of track between Snowflake and Holbrook, Ariz.
