Texas short-line workers join UTU division

Operating and non-operating employees at the Texas & Northern Railway Co. recently voted in favor of being represented by the SMART Transportation Division, the United Transportation Union announced on Friday. The non-operating employees include maintenance-of-way workers, machinists and mechanics.
Based in Lone Star, Texas, the short line provides service to U.S. Steel's Texas Tubular operations, as well as four other customers along its 7.6-mile line. The Texas & Northern interchanges with Kansas City Southern at Veals Yard.
The short line is owned by Transtar Inc., which also operates the Delray Connecting Railroad Co., Gary Railway Co., Lake Terminal Railroad Co. and Union Railroad Co.
