TriMet's board this week approved a four-year labor agreement with the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 757 that covers 2,700 employees at the Portland, Oregon, transit agency.

The new pact takes effect Dec. 1. The ATU ratified the agreement in August, according to a TriMet press release.

The contract boosts union employees’ wages by 4% in December 2024, followed by a 3% increase each year after that — a 13.64% wage increase over four years. Hourly pay also will increase for maintenance shifts between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. TriMet will also rework schedules and add new cleaning positions.

The wage increase and other benefits aimed at increasing employee retention and drawing new employees to TriMet to support service and rider experience improvements, TriMet officials said.
