Two federations within the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED) of the Teamsters Rail Conference recently merged to form the largest of the union’s 26 federations.

Comprising the former Allied Eastern and Missouri Pacific federations, the new Allied Federation will represent more than 5,500 BMWED members, including MOW workers at CSX Transportation, Kansas City Southern and Union Pacific Railroad.

Dennis Albers will serve as general chairman and Greg Harless, executive board chairman, of the new federation.

“We look forward to working together as one unit to improve the quality of representation for all of our members,” said Albers in a prepared statement.

The BMWED represents more than 37,000 U.S. rail workers who build and maintain track, bridges and buildings.
