Two regionals reach tentative agreements with rail labor unions

On Sept. 2, the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Co. (EJ&E) reached a tentative agreement with the Transportation Communications International Union (TCU), according to the National Mediation Board (NMB).

Terms of the agreement — which covers clerical, office, stock and storehouse workers — weren't disclosed pending ratification by TCU members.

EJ&E interchanges in the Chicago area with all the Class Is. The 187-mile regional is owned by U.S. Steel Corp. subsidiary Transtar, which also owns Union Railroad Co., Birmingham Southern Railroad Co., Lake Terminal Railroad Co. and McKeesport Connecting Railroad Co.

Meanwhile, the NMB also announced a recently reached tentative agreement between the Delaware & Hudson Railway Co. and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) division of the Teamsters Rail Conference covering engineers. Delaware & Hudson Railway is owned by Canadian Pacific Railway.
