The United Transportation Union (UTU) recently reached a tentative agreement on behalf of train and engine workers employed by Fulton County Railway.

The tentative pact now will be presented to members for ratification. Owned by OmniTRAX Inc., the 20-mile Fulton County Railway operates over CSX Transportation-owned track in an Atlanta industrial park.

The short line’s workers chose the union as their bargaining representative in August 2010.

“What we are trying to do is bring parity in wages, benefits and work rules to the thousands of employees in the short-line railroad industry, in addition to the many other protections offered by union membership,” said UTU General Chairperson Doyle Turner, who heads the union’s short-line-initiative, in a news item posted on the UTU’s web site.

Meanwhile, the National Mediation Board announced the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division reached a tentative agreement on behalf of MOW workers employed at the Southeast Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. The tentative pact will be presented to members for ratification.
