University College, the University of Denver’s college of professional and continuing studies, recently introduced a global commerce and transportation major in its Bachelor of Arts Completion Program (BACP).

The course for the major covers transportation safety and security issues, law and policy, economics and finance, international trade, logistics and supply chain topics, and transportation modes and nodes.

The new major "addresses a critical transportation and supply chain industry management development challenge,” said George Woodward, board president of the University of Denver’s Intermodal Transportation Institute, in a prepared statement, adding that corporations involved in global commerce and transportation have confirmed the need for well-qualified candidates.

Students in the program will gain the foundational elements needed to effectively manage the transportation of goods and people, and pursue more advanced career opportunities or education in the transportation industry, said John Hill, director of the new program.

“After graduation, some of the careers possible with this degree are entry level professional positions with transportation providers, supply chain management and logistic services, including air package express, rail, motor and ocean carriers, and related companies,” he said.
