VIA Rail, Teamsters reach tentative agreement

On Friday, VIA Rail Canada Ltd. and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference reached a tentative agreement on a contract covering 300 locomotive engineers.
The agreement followed the appointment of a federal mediator to the case. If ratified, the contract will be effective until Dec. 31, 2014; the previous agreement expired Dec. 31, 2010.
The union will release details of the contract after it is ratified, a union official said in a prepared statement.
