CIG Logistics has opened a new rail terminal in Navasota, Texas, to serve the energy and construction industries in southeast Texas, the company announced yesterday.

The Navasota hub is strategically located in the Eaglebine and Woodbine Shale plays near Houston to minimize trucking distances and provide faster access to common trucking routes, company officials said in a press release. The facility was designed to help customers reduce supply-chain logistics costs for frac sand and other commodities.

The site features 392 rail car spots and direct service from Union Pacific Railroad.

"As the energy and construction markets in Southeast Texas advance, companies are in need of more efficient and affordable transportation, transloading and storage solutions for critical supplies," said CIG Logistics Vice President of Business Development Michael Collins.

CIG anticipates employing dozens of skilled workers at the site, including railroad engineers, conductors and bulk terminal operators.
