R. J. Corman Switching Co. LLC was awarded a contract to serve as the switching and transloading provider for the Union Pacific Railroad-served Hempstead Logistics Park near Houston.

The 137-acre park, which is owned by McAlister Assets and operated by RCR Rail Co., offers services such as manifest, transload, rail-car storage and rail-car switching with controlled park access and security, R. J. Corman officials said in a press release.

R. J. Corman will be responsible for switching and transloading the inbound and outbound freight and will interchange with the Union Pacific mainline at the park, they said.

“This is an exciting opportunity to get in at the early stages of such a high-potential project,” said Paul Lauritzen, vice president of transportation for R. J. Corman Railroad Group. “We will continue to be a strategic partner for our customers and the industry at large, and look forward to serving the growing shippers and cars in the park for the years ahead.”

This year, R. J. Corman Switching began serving three new customers and added new locations for established customers. Expanded services include offering rail-car repair to Class Is and industry customers, and providing onsite and mobile Association for American Railroads- and Federal Railroad Administration-required repairs.
