Savage to build UP-served rail port in Utah

Savage Cos., an industrial logistics infrastructure and supply-chain services provider, this week announced plans to construct, own and operate a multicommodity railport in Iron County, Utah.
Savage Railport–Southern Utah will provide transloading services to connect supply chains for agriculture products, construction materials and other commodities. Expected to open in 12 to 15 months, the rail port will provide shippers with direct access to Union Pacific Railroad.
Savage is working with Iron County to obtain all necessary permits.
The new railport "will support moving building and construction products, dry-bulk and liquid-bulk materials between trucks and rail cars," said Savage Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer Jason Ray in a press release.
"This transportation infrastructure investment will drive economic growth and support jobs by helping connect farmers and businesses in Cedar City, St. George and rural communities throughout southern Utah with broader domestic and global markets," Ray added.
