Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad L.L.C. (WNYP) is seeking a Surface Transportation Board exemption to lease a 98.3-mile line from the Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany and Steuben Southern Tier Extension Railroad Authority (STERA) and Norfolk Southern Railway.

A Livonia, Avon and Lakeville Railroad Co. (LAL) subsidiary, WNYP plans to operate the line, which is located between Machias Junction, N.Y., and Driftwood, Pa. STERA owns the portion of the line located in New York; NS owns the portion in Pennsylvania and currently operates the entire line.

Part of LAL’s 282-mile system, the WNYP interchanges with NS in Hornell and Olean, N.Y., and Corry and Meadville, Pa. The short line also interchanges with Canadian Pacific Railway, the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad, New York and Lake Erie Railroad, and Oil Creek and Titusville Railroad.
