Yesterday, private equity firm The Carlyle Group announced it had reached a definitive agreement to acquire transportation communications and systems engineering firm ARINC Inc. The deal’s financial terms weren’t disclosed.

ARINC develops and operates communications and information processing systems, and provides systems engineering and integration solutions to five industries: airports, aviation, defense, government, and surface transportation. The Annapolis, Md.-based company has 3,300 employees in 100 offices worldwide, generating annual revenue of more than $900 million.

"We have worked very hard to find a partner who shares our vision, and believe that Carlyle's international presence, financial resources, and expertise in the aerospace, defense, and communications sectors will be instrumental in the continued expansion of our business,” said ARINC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Belcher in a prepared statement.

Added Carlyle Managing Director and Head of the Global Aerospace and Defense sector team Peter Clare: “We believe that ARINC is well positioned to capitalize on several favorable macro trends in both its commercial and government market segments.”

The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter, subject to regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions.
