Kansas City Transportation Co. L.L.C. recently acquired a 5.5-mile industrial lead track in Kansas City, Mo., from BNSF Railway Co.

The Class I constantly reviews its network to ensure assets are used efficiently and customer service is most effective, and the "transfer of this portion of our Kansas City-area industrial switching is an outcome of that ongoing review," said BNSF Vice President of Network Development Pete Rickershauser in a prepared statement.

Kansas City Transportation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kansas City Terminal Railway Co., which is owned by BNSF, Kansas City Southern, Norfolk Southern Railway, Union Pacific Railroad and the Iowa Chicago and Eastern Railroad Corp. Formed in January 2006, Kansas City Transportation provides switching services in the Kansas City area.
