Regional Rail to acquire Indiana Eastern, Ohio South Central railroads

3i-backed Regional Rail, which owns and operates short lines, has agreed to acquire Indiana Eastern Railroad and Ohio South Central Railroad.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The railroads operate a combined 107 miles of mainline routes across Indiana and Ohio. The rail lines serve industrial customers across a variety of end-markets, including food, agriculture and chemicals.

The acquisition further expands Regional Rail’s existing Midwest presence, which it built through the acquisition of the Effingham Railroad Co., South Point & Ohio Railroad and Illinois Western Railroad Co. in December 2022, Regional Rail officials said in a press release.

Regional Rail also has provided freight-rail operations at the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor since October 2022.

Since partnering in July 2019, 3i and Regional Rail will have more than quadrupled the number of railroads under Regional Rail’s control to 15 across North America. The company provides freight transportation, car storage, and transloading services in the United States and western Canada.
