Rail News: M&A
Alcatel recently announced it will sell two subsidiaries and its stake in two satellite companies to global electronics company Thales Group for $813.4 million.
As part of the deal, Thales will acquire Alcatel’s Transport Systems groups, which provides signaling systems for transit agencies.
Expected to close in the year’s second half, the acquisition will increase Alcatel’s stake in industrial partner Thales from 9.5 percent to 21.6 percent.
The deal is part of Alcatel’s proposed merger with Lucent Technologies Inc., which would enable the companies to “generate significant growth in revenues and earnings based on market opportunities for next-generation networks, services and applications,” according to a prepared statement.
