Alpenglow Rail Services Corp. and partner Connor, Clark & Lunn Infrastructure announced yesterday they've acquired Alberta Midland Railway Terminal Ltd. (AMRT), a rail terminal in Alberta, Canada.

AMRT is a dual-served rail terminal near Edmonton that spans 300 acres and offers more than 1,400 rail-car storage spots and a unit train-capable loop track, Alpenglow officials said in a press release. The terminal offers connections to Canadian Pacific and CN and specializes in rail-car staging and storage-in-transit to blue-chip industrial customers.

Under the new ownership, AMRT will expand its third-party logistics offerings to include end-to-end transloading and rail-car cleaning and repair.

The acquisition is Alpenglow and CC&L Infrastructure’s first Alberta addition to the pair’s rail portfolio, Alpenglow officials said. This is the pair’s sixth terminal acquisition since forming the partnership in 2019.

Together, Alpenglow and CC&L Infrastructure own VIP Rail, which encompasses two rail-car storage, switching, transloading and cleaning terminals in Sarnia, Ontario, and USA Terminals, which includes three similar rail terminals on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

"Having dual service to multiple Class I railroads provides AMRT's customers [with] competitive options, resulting in lower transportation fees and a much larger network of origination and destination locations," said Alpenglow CEO Rich Montgomery. "We serve many of the same customers as AMRT at our other terminal locations, which provides us a unique opportunity to grow these relationships and continue to add value by expanding into this important market."
