Cando Rail & Terminals today announced it has acquired Transmark, a private rail-storage facility in southwest Alberta.

The terminal adds rail capacity to Cando’s network and provides access to the Rocky Mountains, western provinces and Pacific Northwest regions, Cando Rail officials said in a press release. The investment marks a milestone for Cando as the company’s first terminal acquisition.

The location provides Cando’s clients with a unit-train staging and storage location with rail-car repair shops directly on site.

"The terminal will allow us to expand our nation-wide logistics planning network, thereby enabling greater movement of Canada’s goods and resources in a key transportation corridor," said Cando President and CEO Brian Cornick.

The terminal has a current capacity of 1,700 rail-car spots and will offer services seven days per week for rail-car staging and storage, including unit-train storage capability. Also offered at the site are windmill transloading and mechanical services.

With the acquisition, Cando’s network has the capacity to stage and store more than 10,000 rail cars. The company now owns 12 rail terminals and one short line.

All existing Transmark employees will be retained and operations at the terminal will continue as normal, Cando officials said.
