Yesterday, The Greenbrier Cos. announced it acquired YSD Industries Inc.’s box-car sliding and plug door, and roof product lines from Global Railway Industries Ltd. Greenbrier plans to relocate production equipment from YSD’s Youngstown, Ohio, plant — which ceased operations in December — to one of its North American facilities.

“The acquisition fits well with our strategy of protecting and enhancing our supply chain of critical rail-car specialty items and vertically integrating on a select basis,” said Greenbrier President and Chief Executive Officer William Furman in a prepared statement. “The components will be made available both to Greenbrier and to third-party customers, including other rail-car builders.”

Global Railway previously sold YSD’s running board and platform product lines to Miller Metals Service Corp. The company is seeking buyers for YSD’s remaining product line, inventory and equipment.
