RailWorks Corp. managers and private equity investment firm Wind Point Partners recently teamed up to acquire the track and transit system construction service provider from MatlinPatterson Global Opportunities Partners, which has owned RailWorks since 2002.

The ownership change won’t affect the company’s management or operations, said RailWorks President and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Levy in a prepared statement. Founded in 1998, the company employs 1,300 people at more than 30 U.S. and Canadian offices. RailWorks’ customers include North American Class Is, regionals, short lines, commuter railroads and transit authorities.

“Our association with Wind Point will allow RailWorks to build on its substantial base to meet the growing needs of our customers and others in the markets we serve,” said Levy. “Our plans include expanding our transit systems operations, both in New York and across North America … [and] expanding the geographic footprint and service offerings of our track construction and maintenance operations.”
