Mississippi Railcar L.L.C. recently purchased the rail-car repair and maintenance operations of Custom Rail Car L.L.C. Terms weren't disclosed.
Located on a 67-acre site near the Meridian & Bigbee Railroad, Mississippi Railcar plans to expand its capabilities and capacity to meet growing demand, according to a prepared statement. Current services include operating repairs, standard and specialized welding, refurbishment programs, wreck work, exterior painting and mobile repair.
Meanwhile, Chicago Freight Car Leasing Co. recently entered into a long-term maintenance arrangement with Mississippi Railcar. Under the pact, Mississippi Railcar will serve as a preferred rail-car maintenance service provider for Chicago Freight Car, whose fleet totals more than 9,000 cars.
"Mississippi Railcar provides our company the services of an experienced operation that will provide strong support for our customers' rail-car maintenance needs in the south and east area of the country," said Chicago Freight Car Chief Mechanical Officer Dennis Weed.
