Last month, Mittal Steel Co. N.V. completed its merger with International Steel Group Inc. (ISG), creating the world’s largest steel producer. Now, Mittal Steel seeks to acquire control of ISG’s three small roads.
Mittal Steel recently filed an exemption notice with the Surface Transportation Board to acquire control of regional ISG Railways Inc., and short lines ISG South Chicago & Indiana Harbor Railway Co., and ISG Cleveland Works Railway Co.
In 2003, ISG formed ISG Railways after obtaining the assets of Keystone Railroad L.L.C. — owner of eight short lines — from Bethlehem Steel Corp.
