Mohall Central Railroad Inc. recently filed an exemption notice with the Surface Transportation Board to acquire a 69-mile line between Lakota and Sarles, N.D., from BNSF Railway Co.

Last month, Mohall Central reached an agreement with Northern Plains Railroad Inc. (NPR) under which the 383-mile North Dakota short line will operate the line. Mohall Central plans to build a connecting track between NPR’s line and a BNSF segment near Munich, N.D.

Launched in 1997, NPR operates lines between Thief River Falls, Minn., and Kenmare, N.D., and Fordville and Harlow, N.D.
