Morristown & Erie Railway to lease, operate Maine-owned lines
advertisement
Morristown & Erie Railway Inc. (M&E) recently filed an exemption notice with Surface Transportation Board to lease and operate 85 track miles owned by the state of Maine.
The track comprises branch lines from Brunswick to Augusta and Rockland, and the Atlantic Branch Line in Rockland.
The 42-mile short line and Maine reached a lease/operating agreement, which is subject to existing freight operating rights held by Maine Central Railroad Co. and Springfield Terminal Railway Co. over portions of the lines.
Safe Handling Rail Inc. previously operated the lines under a state agreement, which expired Sept. 30.
M&E currently owns and operates track in two New Jersey counties and one Pennsylvania county.
